A great piece of 4km forestry road, Mt Thomas is an awesome fast blast with a bit of everything, fast, technical climb then along a ridgeline through the forest and a twisty downhill finish.
A cool overcast day in the forest with 47 competitors lining up to take on the road with a good base but a little slippy underfoot in places
Apart from a small stoppage to extinguish Mike Barltrop’s Impreza during the first run, Derek Hartley in a Fiesta deciding to take a closer look at the forest scenery upside down in the second run and Dave Ollis deciding his coupe needed a drink from one of the ponds on the side of the road the day ran well
Matt Summerfield looking super comfortable in the AP4 Mirage took out the top spot with a mega in his second run to win the event by almost 6 seconds back to David Quantock in the AP4 Fabia. 3 Imprezas from very different formulas were 3rd, 4th and 5th with Sean Haggarty in his Turbo GC8 rounding out the podium a further 4 seconds back narrowly beating Garet Thomas in his later model hatch and Jeff Judd in his H6 GC8 Coupe
Class 1 0-1300cc winner Chris Herdman (Starlet) backed up his win from 2017, in a tight battle with Paul Roughan in second and long time campaigner in the only non-starlet entry Grant Goile in his Corrolla.
Class 2 1301-1600cc Karl Celeste won with consistent times with run 2 and 3 only .02 of a second apart, closely followed by Kyle Thomson in 2nd and Tim McDonald in his escort rounding out the podium
Class 3 1600cc+ Darren Galbraith was quick out of the blocks with 7th overall one the first run and ending up 12th overall and winning class 3, narrowly beating Robert McCallum(Groove) in 2nd and losing the bragging rights in the shared Fiesta with Darren, Lyndon Galbraith came 3rd
